The 2025 Distinguished Young Woman of Mobile County, Shayla Holloway, now holds the title of 2025 Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama! Shayla is a senior at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science.

This was a back-to-back honor for Mobile County (2024 winner - DeAsia Jones and 2025 winner - Shayla Holloway). Since the beginning of the Alabama program in 1958, Mobile County has never had a repeat win and had only won the state title once, 36 years ago (1989 winner - Kim Wimmer).

Shayla was one of 43 contestants from across the state that competed in the Alabama state competition last weekend. She won the Bruce Triftshauser Community Involvement Award and preliminary awards in the Fitness, Self-Expression and Interview categories! As the winner of the Mobile County program, she also won awards in the Scholastics, Interview and Fitness categories, along with top ads, for total DYW scholarship earnings of $17,700 (so far)! Her incredible journey continues as she prepares to represent the state of Alabama at the National Finals this June (held in Mobile, AL). We can’t wait to see all the amazing things she will accomplish! After graduating high school from the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science, Shayla plans to attend John Hopkins University and become a pediatrician!

ASMS senior, Jeeah Kim, was the second runner-up! She also took home multiple preliminary and categorical awards.

Congratulations, and GO DRAGONS!
