ASMS Alumna Now A Faculty Member at ASMS Honored with WKRG's Golden Apple Award
ASMS alumna and now ASMS mathematics faculty member, Kristal Webb (Class of 2006), is the recipient of WKRG News 5’s Golden Apple Award which they describe as “honor[ing] local teachers who are making a difference in the classroom.” Mrs. Webb was nominated by two of her students, Brandon Hunt and Alejandro De Los Santos Gallegos. ASMS students, faculty, and staff gathered at the school's outdoor amphitheater on campus with the WKRG camera crew to surprise Mrs. Webb with her award!
Mrs. Webb grew up in north Alabama and found her love of mathematics at an early age. She is a graduate of the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science, class of 2006! Not ready to leave the “big city” of Mobile behind, Mrs. Webb pursued and earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and pure mathematics from Spring Hill College. It was at Spring Hill that she discovered a love of logic and mathematical proofs leading to the pursuit of a master’s degree in mathematics with a focus on differential topology. Mrs. Webb spent several years working in biomedical engineering research before beginning her teaching career at MCPSS and then University of South Alabama. Mrs. Webb came “home” to ASMS as an adjunct instructor in Fall 2020. She is delighted to help ASMS students build strong foundations and create connections between mathematics and real world problems.
